The Mitten Tree Collection offers a great way to celebrate the true spirit of the season. Round up everyone in the household and go shopping — but not for the usual holiday gifts. Pick up mittens, gloves, scarves and hats, and head for the Town Offices. Trade each of your new purchases for a candy cane, and your donation will be given to someone who needs it this winter. Gently used winter accessories are also welcome. In addition to the municipal office site, you’ll find mitten trees at various Andover locations.

Resolve to end 2014 on a positive note by getting some fresh air, exercise and a little mingling when you participate in We Walk the Woods at Harold Parker State Forest. Meet up with a group at the park’s headquarters in North Andover. This moderately paced walk is a free event that’s appropriate for people of all ages. Bundle up and bring your favorite snacks!
